Across China, the Church is growing rapidly. Today, there are around 46 million Christians, and that number is increasing by about 1 million each year.
But this growth also brings real challenges. Around 60{0efa61f77e4cd09e7b4f08094b2911ffcdf8ad00293cb60de4a24edfe6036ea2} of believers live in rural areas, where it can be difficult to access a Bible. At the same time, there are not enough trained pastors to support the growing Church—on average, there is just one minister for every 6,700 believers, leaving churches to rely on 190,000 lay preachers, many of whom have limited theological training and resources.

Equipping Future Church Leaders in China
Xie Rongbin, a student at Nanjing Union Theological Seminary, is preparing to serve the growing Church in China.
His call to ministry began with his grandmother, who raised her family through hardship, and was strengthened by his parents’ faith. Growing up in a town without a pastor, Xie saw first-hand how a lack of teaching left believers vulnerable and searching for answers.
Today, the Church in China is growing rapidly—but there are not enough trained pastors to meet the need, especially in rural areas.
After graduating, Xie plans to return to serve in his home church, leading worship, teaching, and discipling others. But like many students, he faces a shortage of essential study tools.
“Bible Society resources have been transformative,” Xie shares. “They help me study Scripture deeply and prepare meaningful sermons. But many resources are still shared and in short supply.”
