THE CAUSE

The 2022 invasion of Ukraine marked a significant turning point in Europe, and the conflict continues to create an urgent need for Bibles. Meanwhile, the ongoing struggle in Nagorno-Karabakh has recently displaced 100,000 people in Armenia, adding to the region’s pain.

The Bible Societies in Ukraine and Armenia are dedicated to distributing Bibles and Scriptures to individuals residing in these war and conflict zones. These organisations operate within challenging and often dangerous conditions.

Still, they persevere in reaching out to people, fostering engagement with the Bible, and delivering hope and solace in God’s Word to those in desperate need.

THE IMPACT

• The Bible Society of Ukraine distribute 3,200 military Bibles, 15,000 pocket-sized New Testaments, and 3,000 children’s Bibles in Ukrainian and Russian through military chaplains.
• The Bible Society of Ukraine, in partnership with local churches, deliver 10,000 children’s Bibles, 4,000 Youth Bibles, 4,000 Bibles, and 6,000 large-print Bibles to families in need.
• The Bible Society of Armenia bring the “Moving Gospel: Good News for Border Villages” project to people in isolated border communities.
• The Bible Society of Armenia provide trauma healing sessions and run camps for children, distributing 250 Bibles, 500 children’s Bibles, 500 Bible storybooks, and 500 colouring books.

Sharing the hope of The Gospel in Armenia

The Bible Society of Armenia is on a mission to bring the hope of God’s Word to Armenians living in the Nagorno-Karabakh region—a place deeply scarred by decades of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, tensions between the two nations have erupted into three wars, with the latest in 2023 forcing 100,000 Armenians to flee their homes.

Through its “Moving Gospel: Good News for Border Villages” project, Bible Society is reaching out to people living in isolated border villages who have been profoundly affected by this ongoing conflict.

The Bible Society team, which includes trained psychologists, travels to these remote villages to provide spiritual support and encouragement. In each village, they hold twelve two-hour meetings where they read and discuss parables, explore biblical values, teach prayers and psalms, and even perform puppet shows on Biblical topics. They also distribute Scriptures and other Christian literature, ensuring that the message of hope and peace reaches those who need it most.

In April 2024, the team completed the project in the border village of Karahunj, as shown in the video above.

Praying for a Miracle in Ukraine

Anatoliy Raychynets, the Deputy General Secretary of the Ukrainian Bible Society, shares a heartfelt plea in the video above, directly from the frontline in Eastern Ukraine:

“I would like to ask you, as you have been with us for more than 850 days since the full-scale war started, to continue standing with us. Friends, we need you! We need your prayers because only a miracle from God can help us in this situation.”

Anatoliy also expresses deep gratitude for the support they’ve received. Despite the frontline burning and the enemy pushing hard, they’ve been able to keep serving with the Word of God:

“Thank you for helping us bring the Word of God, the word of hope, in the very difficult circumstances of war.”
