CARIBBEAN HURRICANE APPEAL

Bible Society NZ · 12 November 2025 · 2 min read

THE CAUSE

At the end of October, Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, tore through Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic with winds reaching 300 km/h. Entire towns have been flattened. Seventy-five lives have already been lost, many more are missing, and over 1.5 million people are struggling to survive. Families are still searching for loved ones, and churches, once places of refuge and hope, now lie in ruins.

Roads are blocked, hospitals are overwhelmed, and 77% of Jamaica is without electricity. In the Dominican Republic, entire communities are cut off, with some only reachable by drones delivering food parcels.

Our Bible Society teams are there, praying with families, comforting the grieving, and bringing hope through God’s Word. But they cannot do it alone; they need our collective prayers and support now.

Simply use the secure online donation form or internet banking to make your gift to help support Bible Societies in the Caribbean.

THE IMPACT

Right now, your gift can provide both physical relief and spiritual comfort to those who have lost everything:

$20

prints 10 portions of Scripture, offering people the hope of Christ during time of despair.

$30

provides a small emergency kit containing food, clean water, and essential sanitation items to a family who has lost everything.

$50

delivers a larger humanitarian aid kit, including food, water, and a mattress, giving someone a safe place to sleep tonight.

$80

provides seven complete Bibles to individuals seeking comfort, strength, and the unshakable hope of God’s Word amid devastation.

Your urgent gift today can save lives and restore hope.

Hurricane Emergency Appeal - Bible Society

THEY’VE LOST EVERYTHING - YOU CAN BRING HOPE TODAY

The mother in the picture stands before the ruins of her home, clutching her child, surrounded by shattered walls and fallen trees. She has nothing left, no food, no clean water, no bed to lay her child down. And yet, through her tears, she whispers, “God, please help us.”

Today you can help!

A gift of $30 can provide a family who has lost everything with an emergency kit containing food, water, and sanitation essentials. Add just $2 and you can also include a printed Scripture, bringing hope through God’s Word.

YOUR GIFT CAN OPEN THAT DOOR

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (KJV)
