Haiti
“Haiti” means “a mountainous land” in the Taíno language, a fitting name for this beautiful Caribbean nation known for its rugged mountains and stunning coastline. Yet behind this natural beauty, Haiti continues to face deep challenges. It remains the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, struggling with ongoing political and economic instability, made worse by the devastating 2010 earthquake that claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people. While the country continues its slow recovery from this tragedy and the impact of the pandemic, many families still live with great uncertainty.
Today, Haiti is home to more than 11 million people, around three-quarters of whom identify as Christian, predominantly Roman Catholic. The Gospel is widely known and respected, yet traditional beliefs such as Voodoo remain part of the cultural landscape. Many Christian parents are therefore seeking ways to guide their children firmly in faith, helping them grow in their understanding of God’s Word. This has created a strong demand for children’s ministry resources that can equip families to nurture faith at home.
In answering Jesus’ command in Matthew 19:14 NIV, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” The Bible Society of Haiti has responded through the Light of Christmas for Haitian Children Project. This initiative uses the Christmas season to share the true message of hope found in Christ. Through this project, 10,000 children will receive a children’s Bible and the Family Bible – 100 Steps, translated into Creole and French, along with a small toy to bring joy during Christmas.

FURTHER BIBLE MISSION PROJECTS
Samoa
In Samoa, faith plays a central role in community life, with churches shaping families and villages across the nation. As society continues to change, there is a growing need to ensure that God’s Word remains clearly understood and faithfully passed on to future generations.
The South Pacific Bible Society continues its work of translating the Old Samoan Old Testament into the contemporary language, with plans in 2028 to review Genesis and Exodus and prepare a trial print of the Minor Prophets.
Prayer is needed for the translation team as they serve with dedication and for strong partnership and support from local churches, as the project continues to make progress.
Tanzania
In Tanzania, the Young Samaritan programme supports children and young people through faith‑based learning that encourages positive life choices, personal growth, and care for others. Working alongside churches, schools, and community partners, the programme helps young people navigate social challenges and build healthy values rooted in the Scripture.
Through interactive workshops, storytelling, and practical life‑skills training, participants are equipped with knowledge, confidence, and a sense of responsibility toward their communities. Coordinated by the Global Mission Team Africa Youth Service, this work relies on prayerful support for its partners, staff, and volunteers, and for the 2026 activities to continue strengthening young lives with wisdom, hope, and lasting impact.
Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone was the first West African nation to be evangelised in 1785; only about 11% of the population identifies as Christian today, while 67% identify as Muslim. While Christianity has started to grow in this country, evangelism has being hindered by illiteracy which means that many people are unable to access Scripture through printed materials alone.
In response, the Bible Society of Sierra Leone is making Scripture accessible through the Jesus Film and audio Bible in local languages. These resources allow people to hear, reflect on, and discuss Scripture regardless of reading ability. Prayer is needed for adequate funding, additional equipment to expand outreach, and for more participants to be inspired as they encounter God’s Word.
Venezuela
Venezuela continues to face deep political and economic instability, yet the Christian faith remains strong, with around 88% of the 31 million population identifying as Christian. However, hyperinflation and rising costs have made it difficult for churches to meet the growing demand for Bibles.
Through the Light of Hope for Venezuela Project, the Bible Society of Venezuela plans to distribute 12,000 Bibles in 2026 to support churches and believers.
Prayer is needed for this project, that resources will be sufficient, distribution will be effective, and God’s Word will continue to bring hope, resilience, and renewal to churches and communities across Venezuela.
